Many people are fascinated with the monkey. It is the animal that seems to resemble man the most. But monkeys are not related to man in any way. The Bible declares that God created the animals “each according to its kind”.1 God then created man, male and female, and He blessed them.2 That is why, up to now, no credible “missing link” is found between the monkey and man.
Man has unique characteristics not found in animals. These include the ability to worship God, to think logically, to express joy and goodwill with one another, and to exchange gifts. Joy and goodwill are seen during reunions, when family members and old-time friends meet together.
Temporary joy
Alas, the joy of reunion is only short-lived! The time to part soon comes. You will have to wait for another reunion, at another time. This is a sobering truth.
Furthermore, the reunion is not the same each time. We all grow older, and some loved ones pass away. You do not know which will be the last reunion with some of your friends and relatives. You do not know which will be your last one.
Temporary separation from friends and relatives is saddening. Permanent separation is painful. Eternal separation from God is much, much worse. We have been blessed with life, health, family, friends, jobs and many things besides. But we have not been thankful to God who gave us all these things. We have not worshipped Him. Instead, we have lived as we like and broken His law. When we are finally punished with eternal damnation in hell, no amount of regret will be able to change anything. The gathering of all unrighteous people in hell will not be a happy reunion.
Eternal blessedness
The Bible reveals the possibility of a happy reunion in which there will be no more separation. Indeed, it is not just a possiblity but a certainty to those who trust in Jesus Christ as their Saviour. Jesus Christ said, “In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”3 These words are addressed to those who have been purchased by Jesus Christ and washed clean by His blood.
The eternal Son of God was sent by the Father to the world to take upon Himself perfect human nature. Jesus Christ, the God-Man, lived a perfectly righteous life and died as a substitute for His people. He was buried and, on the third day, rose again. Christ’s death on the cross was the all-sufficient payment for the sins of His people. Christ’s blood, shed on the cross, is able to cleanse them of all their sins. Whoever turns from his sinful life, to trust in Christ for acceptance with God, will receive eternal life.4
The time will come when all true believers are gathered in heaven, never to part again. It will be a happy reunion in which all our sins are remembered no more. The pain and sorrow of this world will be forgotten. We will grow together in the joy of worshipping and serving the true and living God. All this is made possible, and certain, by the gift of God to us, namely Jesus Christ.5
God’s gift of salvation in His Son is offered to you freely. The least you can do is to receive this salvation with gratitude. Make up your mind to stop living as you like. Pray to God for forgiveness in Christ’s name. Live to please God alone.
