Dear Brethren & Friends,
I am writing from Hong Kong. Goody and I just came back from a Bible Study at the Chung King hotel at Kowloon. We were accompanied by Andrew Wan this time.
Brother Weng Keong and family were in Hong Kong last week, staying at that hotel. While visiting them, we got to know a few Ghanian men working there. We suggested having a Bible Study with them on Saturday evening, at 9.00pm, the time when they were a little bit more free. About six men were present during that meeting. We arranged to meet again the next Saturday, which was how the meeting this evening came about.
This afternoon, I called the men in charge, Ramsey. He was reluctant to have a meeting, claiming that he would be busy in the evening. After a bit of persuasion, he agreed to have the meeting. We visited Andrew’s parents and had dinner with them. We then proceeded to the hotel. After waiting about 15 minutes for Ramsey to be free, we had our meeting. Two other Ghanian men came. We persuaded Ramsey’s wife to joined in. A guest who was about to check in, a lady from China, was invited to joined in. She turned out to be a believer.
Andrew read the Bible passage, which was Mark 1:14-26. After a brief prayer, I spoke on the gospel of the kingdom and the hindrances to believing in Christ. The people were very attentive despite an interruption by some hotel guests. After closing in prayer, the China lady, Vivian by name, spoke up saying that the passage described her experience and how she finally came to faith in Christ. Andrew also spoke of how God intervened in his life, bringing him to faith in Christ. One of the men thank us for coming, saying that their work was such that they have been unable to go anywhere, let alone to church. Could we come again to have similar meetings?
We are thankful to God for the opportunity to bring His word to these people. We look forward to the meeting next week, and those in the weeks to come. I believe this news will be an encouragement to you, and request that you pray for us. Would it not be good if a migrant workers’ church is started in Hong Kong?
